The CRSD Board of Education met on Monday, December 10th, to discuss the process for a Superintendent search to fill the position currently held by Tammy Van Wyhe. As announced last week, Mrs. Van Wyhe has accepted a position at the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development, effective January 2, 2019.
The Board will contract with the Alaska Association of School Boards (AASB) to conduct a national search. The vacancy will be advertised through the end of January 2019, and a new superintendent will be selected in early February.
Assistant Superintendent Shaun Streyle will serve as Acting Superintendent, effective January 2, 2019. The Board felt it was unnecessary to name an Interim Superintendent, as the current organizational structure in the CRSD supports a transition such as this. The Board is confident that Mr. Streyle will lead the district well during the search process.
Transparency in the superintendent search process is important to the Board. Community feedback will be solicited through a survey and community meetings slated for 6:00 p.m. on January 15th at Glennallen School, and January 22nd at Kenny Lake School, and at Slana School (date TBA). A web page is being established to centralize information related to the superintendent search.
The Board’s first priority is continuity and stability in the school district. Hiring the best candidate for the superintendency is taken very seriously. We appreciate the hard work and dedication of the CRSD staff and community as we work through the transition process.
